DIY Family Wall Art
One of my favourite things to make is Family Wall Art. Not only are they fun projects to get the whole family involved in, they also add a personal touch to your home and make it warm and inviting. These projects are easy to make, cost-efficient and most of all beautiful.
They tell your family story and in this post, I will share with you a few of the projects my family and I have created over the years and I proudly display throughout our home. Create these beautiful works of art and cherish the memories for years to come.

1. Getting Kids involved in DIY projects:
Creating art together is not only a great creative outlet but also an amazing bonding experience.
Kids love expressing themselves through art, tell me how many pieces of paper you have saved over the years of your kids and the art they make at school. I bet you could fill a museum, I know I sure could.
This one was fun, we created family handprints on a blank canvas, with our names and our family slogan, cheezy I know, but it’s ours!
With this project the kids had so much fun picking out their handprint colours and where they wanted to place their hands.
Things you need to create this:
- Blank Canvas from the Dollar Store
- Canvas paints
- Paintbrushes
- Create a Family Slogan
- Hands
Make this fun, maybe you have a fun family saying you want to add, create a fun family slogan have your kids help you choose one.
Remember this is your family project so get creative and make it personal. Maybe you want a cleaner look leave out the slogan and the names on each handprint, and switch it up, if you have a pet, add their paw print as well.
Simple Family wall art projects like handprint canvases, collaborative paintings, or even crafting a family collage can be both enjoyable and meaningful.
This project is all about the shared experience of doing it together and the memories of creating it, so have Fun with it, and share with me how they turned out, I would love to see them!

2. Personalizing your decor with memories
Our homes are a canvas of memories waiting to be painted. Think of some cherished memories, adventures and milestones your family has experienced.
These are the starting points for this next project.
I grew up by the Ocean so my home is filled with beach or coastal-themed items, most I have outgrown but you will always see beach, coastal-themed items in my home.
So with this project you can totally tailor to your current home style or theme. If your style is vintage, modern or farmhouse doesn’t matter.
Things you need to create this:
- Shiplap Board
- Paints
- Paint Brushes
- Rope
- Wooden Letters
- Glue Gun
- Favourite Photos
- Stencils
To do this Shiplap art, I purchased the shiplap board at Walmart, chose my colour scheme, and painted each board a different colour in a pattern.
I then printed out stencils to use for the Anchor, Boat and Boat Wheel, cut them out and traced them onto the board.
I then painted out the wooden letters and let them dry, then glue-gunned them onto the boards around the Stenciled images of the anchor, boat and boat wheel. I chose to use the kid’s names for the wooden letters.
I then printed 3 photos of my kids at the same ages and attached them to the board with the glue gun. They were just a few days old in these photos, just a great memory to relive when I look at this project every day.
I then took the rope and wrapped it around the shiplap board looping it a few times around each end. I only had to glue the end pieces on the back of the board, but you can glue each section to make it more secure if you want, but it’s not really needed. Voila, work of art completed.
When choosing themes for your family wall art, let your heart guide you. Remember the best Family art reflects the essence of the people who create it.

3. Budget-Friendly Decorating with Family Art
My last Family Wall Art idea that we have used a ton in decorating our home is Canvas prints. I have also done a family gallery wall, but these canvas prints I have done throughout the years and I still love them to this day.
I actually went a little canvas print crazy a few years back, so I’ll have another update on how I’m going to re-purpose them to make them look fresh.
But you don’t need a hefty budget for canvas prints and I have found an amazing company that produces beautiful prints and they are my go-to.
I have also done these as gifts for family and friends and have sent a lot of people their way. Their products are amazing and so easy to do online.
Look out for deals as they always have sales going on and subscribe to their email list so you get notified of any sales or coupons. I can’t say enough about them, I love this company.
This amazing memory was from a friend’s ski lodge that we had all to ourselves and I couldn’t resist this urge to capture this loving moment between siblings. Oh, my heart. The pic below is also from bestcanvas.com.

Conclusion

The pieces you create together will be cherished mementos, weaving the story of your lives into the fabric of your home.
